  2. Cranbrook Art Museum (Located in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan)
The Cranbrook Art Museum in Bloomfield Hills, Michigan, is affectionately known as the ‘Birthplace of Modernism’, and for good reason. Designed by father-and-son duo Eliel and Eero Saarinen in 1942, its adjacent Academy of Art helped shape now legendary design minds, from Harry Bertoia and Florence Knoll to Charles and Ray Eames. And now, after two years and a $22M spend, the Finnish architects’ equally influential campus has undergone a makeover, including the addition of a new Collections Wing. Executed by SmithGroup, the overhaul included the renovation of the building’s pioneering lighting system(recessed in a coffered ceiling), while the new 20,000 sq ft wing means the museum can finally display its entire permanent collection, a 6,000-piece art, architecture and design trove covering over a century of creativity.

In its first phase, the PRT consists of ten electrically powered, driverless white pods, seating up to four adults and two children, that zip along a kilometre-long course by following sensors, In time, Masdar’s spacious undercroft(the city sits o a concrete raft to help climate control and servicing) will buzz with electric freight and passenger traffic - up to 3,000 vehicles in all.

  4. OCT Design Museum (Located in Shenzhen, China)
The concept is that of a captured water droplet. During the daytime the triangular windows and skylights perforate the naturally inspired surface in a seemingly random pattern that evokes the scattered reflections of light from a surface of water.
